yes, we did it!
Customers picking up a copy of their favourite television listings magazine “TV Krant” in January 2018 would not have known it at the time – but the edition marked a major breakthrough in the use of Media Press Group’s world-class metadata system ‘Hubert’.
Until now, publishers have relied on our integrated content managing and design publishing system to generate up-to-date TV and radio programme information for inclusion in dedicated day-t0-day and week-by-week pages for insertion into the finished product, which is then offered to the general public via the news-stands.
But Hubert’s usefulness as a general editing and publishing tool has long been understood by its developers, and TV Krant’s publisher HMC (Hilversumse Media Compagnie) entrusted the task of preparing the entire edition of the latest magazine to Media Press. The 52-page magazine is proof that Hubert and Media Press can be relied on to provide expert essential support in generating any and all content in a modern-day TV and radio guide.
It is understood to be the first time that a metadata system has been used successfully to generate the finished product – cover to cover.
expertise in publishing – the system that makes editorial work easy and cost-effective
Our watchword is “content first”. Editors select information and images from the database, prepare the pages, check the information is up-to-date and standardize the content. Pages are created in strict accordance with the customer’s needs. Moreover, each stage of the editing process can be overseen and directed with use of custom-defined workflow status commands and a live reporting system.
making publishers happy
So for the editor, the Hubert system means: content selection + perfect structure + full control. For our clients, the result is a process that is cost effective, which is all important.
Edger Hamer, chief editor of the TV Krant, said: “HMC was looking for a long time for a reliable and a very flexible editorial system which would meet our demands and the requirements of our TV-guides.
“TV Krant is the first TV-guide which is fully edited in the Hubert System. In 2016, we decided to edit the audition pages in Hubert and the next logical step for us was to integrate all the editorial pages, including the cover, with the system.
“One of the major advantages of Hubert is that the system can be configured tailor-made to our demands. We are now able to create different versions of editorial pages, thanks to which we obtained a smooth, fresh and different styling for every single day. Moreover, the practical links between editorial and audition pages enable us in a very efficient way to provide all changes to be always up-to-date.”
This great example of cooperation between Media Press and its clients creates exciting possibilities for responding to the ever-changing print media market, to meet rising expectations of the public. We are happy to share in the success with HMC and also with Bindinc – the top metadata supplier in the Netherlands and another of our long-term partners (with whom we co-founded TEMDG – The European Metadata Group).
