28 Oct For the first time in history Time magazine has replaced its logo – “VOTE”
It is not only the exhortations of social activists and famous faces, but also individual industries joined in the “Go Vote” campaign in the United States. In the latest edition of one of the world’s most popular magazines – Time, decided to change the logo on the front cover.
Time’s move was both a call to action for readers and a mission statement to use the voice of the November 2 double issue, which contains the most important information about the presidency of the 2020 elections.
The significance of the magazine’s actions was even attached in a note to readers from Time editor-in-chief and CEO Edward Felsenthal:
‘Few events will shape the world to come more than the result of the upcoming U.S. presidential election. This has been a year of so much pain, hardship, chaos and loss. And yet as nations around the world begin to rebuild from the pandemic, it is clear that we also have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change our tune.“
This statement was also highlighted by the swap of the Time logo for “VOTE” – it has never been done before since 1923. The cover was designed by graphic artist Shepard Fairey, who also raised political awareness by creating Barack Obama’s “HOPE” posters during the 2008 presidential election.
It is also worth noting the deliberate exclusion of any reference to the current President Donald Trump. During his almost four-year presidency, he has appeared on the cover of the magazine over 20 times, usually in reference to critical situations such as promoting his policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at border camps or his relationship with Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.
